New Patient Registration
Welcome to the Oaktree Dental Practice. We pride ourselves on quality of treatment, 360 degree care from our fantastic team and aim to provide you with ultimate comfort.
Here’s a little insight into your first visit at our practice.
When you arrive you will be greeted and registered by our receptionist. She will ask you to answer a couple questionnaires about your general health and then specifically about your mouth. Whilst you wait for your appointment you will have access to fresh filtered water, complimentary WIFI and a vast range of current magazines or a newspaper.
You will then be collected from reception and introduced to your new dentist and their nurse. We will spend some time getting to know you so that we can cater for all your needs. Once we’ve checked your medical record we will find out a little bit about your current dental concerns, your brushing routine and social history. The social history is primarily about smoking/tobacco and alcohol usage as these are two of the leading causes of mouth cancer and other dental problems.
We will then move you into a comfortable flat position to begin examination of your mouth. We check your jaw joints, glands and the soft tissues of your mouth before we investigate your teeth. This is including an oral cancer screening as we are in the best position to detect this deadly disease at its earliest stage.
We then move onto the teeth, checking each one carefully for cracks, decay and tooth wear. We often use eye magnification under bright illumination to allow us to see fine details. We have a high resolution intra-oral camera to take pictures of your teeth to help you see issues which we may need to discuss.
Once we’ve noted down all the information about your teeth, we then check your gums. A special ball ended probe is gently used to check for any signs of gum disease. We are particularly vigilant of gum disease which can exist silently for many years but causing devastating damage to the bone of the jaw. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the UK and so it is essential that it is routinely checked for at each check up.
Once we’ve completed visual examination of your teeth we usually take a series of X-rays to investigate the areas of the teeth we cannot see with the naked eye. At our practice we are fully digital which means your X-rays will appear instantly on our TV screen after we’ve taken them.
Once the examination is complete we will spend some time discussing any issues and start to formulate a treatment plan together. We will show you the issues on the screen and in your mouth and give you a full range of options with each of their associated risks, benefits and fees. If there are many options and there is a lot to decide on, we can write you a clear report outlining the current conditions with your x-rays and photos labelled. You can then take some time and make the best decision for yourself.
This appointment can take anywhere between 30-60 mins depending on the complexity. The fee for this initial comprehensive examination is inclusive of all the X-rays, photos and any reports which may be required.
If you haven’t been to the dentist in a while or are anxious/embarrassed about coming in, we can assure you that you’re not alone. We see patients just like you daily and just like them we hope to provide you with a completely revolutionary experience of a ‘dentist appointment’ that will leave you completely comfortable and at ease in our care.
